Remembering...

K P Subrahmanian
died November 30, 2017

KP "Subu" Subrahmanian of The Woodlands, TX passed away on November 30th, 2017 after a courageous battle against glioblastoma. He died peacefully, listening to his favorite songs, surrounded by his family and scores of friends.

KP was born in a small village in Kerala, India on October 18, 1946 into a family of Hindu priests with little money but lots of love. He excelled at school and earned scholarships that made college possible. In 1973, he immigrated to the USA where he pursued a PhD at Michigan State University in Organic Chemistry.

He had a successful career as a research scientist at MIT, 3M and Huntsman where he helped invent advanced materials for planes and space technology. He held multiple patents and published numerous articles and chapters.

Wherever he lived, whether in Texas or Minnesota, he was a loved and jovial community member who was committed to public service, arts and educational opportunities for other students seeking a better life. He prayed everyday, He ran every day. He was the model of discipline, but at the same time he loved nothing more than a good meal or a fine wine with his countless friends and family.

In his final months he had completed most everything he ever wanted and his only wish was to spend time with his bride, children and grandchildren. This wish was fulfilled. He was married for 45 years to Indira (Devi) . He is survived and beloved by his wife, his daughter Chitra (spouse Brian), son Krishnan (spouse Shwetha), grandchildren J'kai, Leela and Kiaan Parth (KP), brother Krishnan, sister Ganga Devi and a large network of loved ones.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to support Dave Carlson, a young medical student and family friend, who is fighting his own brave battle with brain cancer.
