Charles Michael "Mike" Vandergriff, a resident of Pinehurst, passed away on December 9, 2017, at the age of 67 after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Mike was born March 8, 1950 to Johnnie and Dorothy (Jackson) Vandergriff in Mineral Wells, Texas. He grew up in Grand Prairie, Texas and spent many summers of his childhood at his maternal grandparents ranch on the Brazos River in Palo Pinto County, Texas. When he was older, his first job was at his father's company, Vandergriff Construction. Mike had many jobs in his lifetime including heavy equipment operator, equipment parts salesman, truck driver, and in later years before retirement, he was a home repair handyman. After retirement, he took up leather crafting as a hobby.
Judy Tweedle was a secretary for the parts department where Mike worked when they met. Mike invited Judy to lunch one day and that was the beginning of their 36+-year relationship. They surprised their coworkers when they were married during their lunch hour in Houston on December 16, 1980, and then returned to work and explained why they were late getting back!
Mike enjoyed riding motorcycles, a love that started as a teenager riding dirt bikes. He also liked shooting guns and playing guitar. By far his favorite activities were spending time with his grandchildren, listening to music, and spending time in his rocking chair on the back porch.
Mike is survived by his wife Judy; son and daughter-in-law, Bryon and Debra Vandergriff of Tomball; daughter and son-in-law, Stacy and Chad Hollaway of Tomball; three granddaughters and one grandson; brother Freddie Vandergriff of Azle, Texas; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Mike chose to be cremated and has asked that his ashes be scattered on a warm tropical beach. A Celebration of Life for Mike will be held on March 3, 2018 at his home. Further details will be posted on social media as the date approaches.
In lieu of flowers, Mike asked that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
