Edwina Rains
died December 18, 2017

Edwina Rains was born in Jacksonville, Texas, and grew up in Terrell, Texas. Her father, Edward Downs, was a logger, and her mother, Nobie Downs, was a housewife.

After her father passed away, her mother remarried Pops Loper. Together, they raised Edwina and her siblings Arnold, Juanita, Joann, and Tex. She attended Terrell High School, and later Durham Business School in Houston, Texas.
Edwina married Chester D. Rains on December 20, 1940, and they resided in Houston, until they moved to Tomball in 1966. They were married for 77 years.

They had four wonderful children: Shirley Ferguson / husband Howell, Barbara Jones / husband Lee, Dena Lovett / husband Curtis, Gary Rains / wife Maria.

Besides her children, she was also blessed with nine grandchildren: Gregg, Randall, Jennifer, Rodney, Clayton, Laura, Joshua, Jared, and Haley.

Fourteen great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren.

Most of her adult married life, was spent caring for her children and other family members. She worked outside the home from 1974 to 1984 for American Medical International. Edwina was a Mother Advisor for Rainbow Girls, and an Eastern Star member, which she enjoyed very much. She was raised in the Baptist faith, and had a very strong relationship with God. Edwina had a very sweet spirit and was a very loving and caring person, who loved to hug and kiss family and friends, and tell them she loved them.
