Shelby Raye Sloan Whitten

March 13, 1995 - February 16,2018

"For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” Philippians 1:21

On Friday, February 16, 2018, a precious soul left our lost and broken world and entered into a perfect eternity with Christ. In her life, 22 year old Shelby Raye Whitten honored her Savior and made her faith known. In her passing and our loss, we are comforted knowing that she has gained what we have yet to experience: Heaven and all of its wonders.

Shelby lived most of her life in the Cypress area, growing up at Cypress Fellowship and graduating from Cy-Woods High School in 2013. She then moved to Huntsville where she attended Sam Houston State University and was due to graduate in May, 2018, with a BS in Criminal Justice. While at SHSU, Shelby was involved at Second Baptist Church in Huntsville, was a proud Tri-Sigma, and eventually met the man she planned to marry, Dakota Apfel.

Today, we mourn the loss of our daughter, sister, fiance, friend, niece, and cousin but we celebrate the beautiful life that she lived. Shelby was preceded in death by her twin sister, Sloan Whitten.
Those remaining who anxiously await our reunion include great-grandparents Cliant and Dorothy Orr, and Vivan Weems, grandparents Chuck and Donna Stevenson, grandfather Roma David Whitten Sr. (Papa Joe), grandmother Jeanette Starrett, grandfather Jimmy Coyle, father Roma David Whitten Jr. (Joey) and wife DeeDee Whitten, mother Stacey Whitten-Lucia, twin brother Seth Whitten, younger brothers Jackson and Levi Lucia, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

This is a difficult time but our Faith carries us through. God is a Good, Good Father to us all.
