Raymond Shay

Raymond Otis Shay, lovingly known as Ray, Skip, Pops, Dad, Grandpa Shay, and Great Papa, passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior on June 1, 2026, at the age of 88. He was surrounded by the love of his devoted wife, children, and grandchildren in Montgomery, Texas. Ray was born in Houston, Texas to Donald Donovan Shay and Lucille Shay. As the youngest son in the family, he grew up in Houston and eventually met the love of his life, Bobbie, at Norhill Pharmacy. Their chance meeting blossomed into a remarkable love story that spanned nearly 68 years of marriage. Before beginning their life together, Ray proudly served his country in the United States Army, attending basic training in Kentucky. Ray and Bobbie were married in July 1958 and built a loving home centered on faith, family, and hard work. Together they raised three children: Ray, Pam, and Rusty. After retirement, Ray and Bobbie made their home in Jasper, Texas, where they enjoyed the beauty of country living, raised animals, and welcomed countless family gatherings. Ray was happiest when surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who brought immeasurable joy to his life. A man of deep faith, Ray loved God, his country, and his family above all else. He faithfully served his church and community, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, camper, and talented woodworker. Gifted in many ways, Ray could build, repair, and create with skill and patience. He also had a passion for writing poetry, leaving behind treasured words that his family will cherish for generations. Ray's legacy is one of unwavering love, integrity, service, and devotion. He taught those around him the value of faith, perseverance, kindness, and family. His influence will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his beloved wife, Bobbie Shay; his son, Ray Shay and wife Kammie; his daughter, Pam Selman and husband Rodney; and his son, Rusty Shay. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Chris Shay (Rebekah), Nik Shay (Farah), Amy Hill (Terral), Samantha Divito (David), Josh Selman (Sara), and Matt Selman (Katie), Zach Shay and Mackenzie Shay. His legacy continues through his beloved great-grandchildren: Collin Shay, Rowan Shay, Skylar Shay and Charlotte Shay, Peyton Hill, Braylon Selman, Paige Selman, Zoey Selman. While his family mourns his passing, they find comfort in knowing that he has been reunited in Heaven with loved ones who preceded him and is now at peace in the presence of the Lord he faithfully served. Ray will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever honored. His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and his love a gift that will remain in the hearts of his family forever.
