Larry Adamick

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of the anchor and heart of our family. Larry James Adamick, Sr. was born in Houston, Texas, to Albina Mae and Marion Thomas Adamick. Larry’s early life was not without hardship, but he never allowed those challenges to define him. Instead, he chose to use those experiences to become someone you felt blessed to know. He was easygoing and kind, finding happiness in the simple things. He loved spending hours playing an old guitar or tinkering with a motor until he brought it back to life. Even as a young man, Larry had a gift—he could take what was broken and make it whole again. More than a skill, it was a reflection of who he was at his core. In 1973, Larry met the love of his life, Nancy, at a gathering with friends. From that moment on, their lives were forever intertwined, and together they built a love and friendship that was both rare and enduring. Not long after, Larry stepped into the roles of husband and stepfather. Though he was barely an adult and still finding his way in the world, he took on the weight of responsibility with quiet strength and no hesitation. No matter the circumstances, he never wavered in providing for his family—that was simply the man he was. Larry’s favorite day of the week was Friday. If he wasn’t at home with his family, you could be sure he was somewhere playing guitar with his band, often performing for a crowd on a Friday night. Larry was a gifted guitarist who taught himself at a young age, and music remained a constant thread throughout his life. Larry and Nancy continued building their life together, welcoming three more children in the years that followed. There was never any doubt that being a father was Larry’s true calling. The patience, love, and devotion he showed his children were unmatched, and he made sure each of them never questioned how deeply they were loved. Throughout the second half of his life, Larry battled cancer multiple times. Though the fear could be overwhelming, he never once gave up. After overcoming lymphoma and becoming a bone marrow transplant survivor, Larry emerged with a deeper appreciation for life. His faith grew stronger, and he gained a deeper understanding of life’s true purpose. He never missed an opportunity to be present with his children, cherishing every moment and recognizing how precious that time truly was. For the next 18 years, Larry lived cancer-free and embraced life to the fullest. These were some of the most meaningful and joyful years of his life, and the time he spent with his family was invaluable to him. Though it was hard to imagine Larry loving anyone more than he loved his children, his grandbabies came into his life and captured his heart in an entirely new way. Being their Papa brought him immense joy, and the love and bond they shared were like no other. In the later years of Larry’s life, he and Nancy were given the gift of time—time that at first seemed shaped by hardship, but ultimately revealed itself as part of God’s perfect plan. Their bond deepened in a beautiful way, and they became not only husband and wife, but the very best of friends. Larry made it his life’s mission to care for Nancy and ensure she never wanted for anything. She was, and always will be, his queen. In the final year of his life, Larry was once again faced with a devastating cancer diagnosis, but this time was different—harder. Still, he rose to meet the battle with everything he had. His courage and strength never wavered. The love, care, and comfort given to him by his wife, children, and grandchildren in his final days were beyond measure—a gift more valuable than gold. For them, it was—and always will be—a true honor. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Albina Mae and Marion Thomas Adamick, and his sister, Mary Elizabeth Winklemann. Larry’s legacy will forever be cherished by his beloved wife, Nancy Adamick. His love and memory will be carried on by his children: Larry Adamick, Jr. and wife Stacey; Haley Dozier and husband Heath; Travis Adamick and wife Diane; Susan Reames and husband Jason. His legacy will continue to live on through his cherished grandchildren, who were his pride and joy: Austyn Faith Dozier, Hadley Ann Dozier, Travis (TJ) Austin Adamick, Jr., Makenzie Barrios, Michael Wagner, and Mason Reames. Larry will be deeply missed by his brother, Billy Adamick; his beloved sister-in-law, Cindy Walker, whose love and support were a true blessing during his most difficult times; his brother-in-law, Andy Walker; sister-in-law, Janet Paddock; and many other treasured family members and dear friends. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the continued friendship and compassionate care of Dr. David Wills, along with the wonderful nurses who cared for Larry in his final days. The Addison family and staff of Magnolia Funeral Home extend condolences to Larry's family and friends during this difficult time.
